Today we begin the forty days of Lent and commit ourselves to fasting, prayer and good works.
Let us pray that with all Christians we may be faithful to the call of God (pause).
Mercy God, guide us at this time as we wear these ashes today in memory of you.
May these ashes strengthen us to live with the risen Christ.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
