PRAYER FOR AUSTRALIAN LEADERS

God of power and might, wisdom and justice,

through you authority is rightly administered,

laws are enacted, and judgement is decreed.

Assist with your spirit of counsel and fortitude

over the leaders of our nation.

May they always seek the ways of righteousness, justice and mercy.

Grant that they may be enabled by your powerful protection to

lead our country with honesty and integrity.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

MORNING PRAYER (Thursday 26^th May 2022)

Dear Lord,

As we now begin National Reconciliation Week, we pray that we will move forward

in creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider

Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We pray for leadership at every level. May the promise of the presence of the Spirit

encourage all cultures to be open and to share with one another.

Gracious God, mindful of the Holy Spirit, who teaches us everything your Son has

told us, we ask that our prayer reflects the Spirit of our Saviour and Teacher, Jesus

Christ our Lord.

Amen.

MORNING PRAYER (Thursday 19^th May 2022)

Dear Lord,

We pray for our faith community. May we never forget those less fortunate than ourselves.

We pray for the sick and for those who care for them.

We pray for those who have died recently and those whose anniversaries occur at this time.

May their faith be rewarded now in the fullness of Christ’s new creation.

We pray for our young people today who are preparing to receive their First Holy Communion

that they may grow in their love and appreciation for Mass and for Jesus’ presence with us in

the Blessed Sacrament.

God of Mercy, receive these petitions today. Bring your love to bear on all that is unloving and

broken in our world. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Jesus gives the gift of peace, a peace the world cannot give.

We pray that God’s peace may fill the world and bring it to

wholeness.

We pray for Pope Francis and the bishops as successors of the apostles.

May they be guided in their leadership by the Spirit that Jesus promised

to send, reminding us of all he taught.

Lord, hear us.

MORNING PRAYER (Wednesday 18^th May 2022)

The feast of Our Lady, Help of Christians, under whose patronage the Australian Bishops placed Australia at their first meeting in 1844. St Mary’s is the name of the Mother Church of Australia, the Sydney Cathedral, which they dedicated to God in honour of his Blessed Mother, Help of Christians.

PRAYER

We pray for our country. As we celebrate this week the feast of Our Lady Help of Christians, the Patron Saint of Australia.

God of Mercy, you gifted Mary in nature and grace to become the Mother of your Son, who learned from her concern for justice in the face of oppression, and tender compassion for anyone in difficulty. Mary stood beneath the cross as her Son died. Following her example, may we stand in mercy and justice with all people beneath the Southern Cross.

May we all commit ourselves to this Great Southern Land of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.
