    MORNING PRAYER

     

    O God, you have given us seas, oceans, rivers and lakes;

    - forgive our greed and negligence which pollutes our

      waters and kills the life within them.

    You placed us on a planet with an atmosphere that gives

    us air to breathe;

    - forgive us our production of toxic wastes, fuel, emissions,

      and for our reluctance to sacrifice our comforts for cleaner

      air.

    The earth cannot survive without our rain forests;

    - forgive our consumerism which has caused the destruction

      of so many of them, inflicting violence on native peoples

      and animals who dwell there.

    Animals, large and small, roam our forests and jungles and

    swim in our oceans;

    - forgive us for causing the extinction of so many species and

      for our silence in the face of poaching and inhumane

      fishing methods.

    You created the heavens and the earth and have given this earth to us as our home;

    - grant that we and all peoples will show our gratitude by

      the care and respect we give to all that you have made.

     

    Amen.
