“What are you willing to give everything for?” View this email in your browser Dear Deacon Nguyen,
How often have you felt like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders?
If you’re like me, probably a thousand times a day!“‘Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done.’” ~ Luke 22:42 Our Lord literally and figuratively had the world’s weight on His shoulders. While the cross weighed about 300 pounds, our sin was a lot heavier. The unimaginable pain and suffering of being crucified; who would do that for us other than a most loving Savior? Which begs the question, what are we willing to give everything for? We must also be willing to take up our own cross. When we take the precious Body and Blood of our Lord, we join ourselves to His sacrifice. And that cup will not be taken from us if we are true followers. So, we don’t just accompany Jesus, we assume His journey of sacrifice as well.
Dinh, as we go through Holy Week, we feel Christ’s journey on earth coming to an end. We’ve all had experiences that we knew weren’t headed where we wanted them to go. The only option is to embrace such journeys, approaching them with an agape type of love, as the Father has for us. “Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Father, into your hands I commend my spirit’” (Luke 23:46) How much are we willing to do God’s will?Sincerely yours in Christ,
Father Raymond J. Finch, M.M.Prayer for Palm Sunday Help us to follow You, Lord Jesus,
on Your road to Calvary.
Help us to pick up our cross
by first putting down whatever
keeps us from loving You
and our brothers and sisters.
May we accept the cross of
opposition and distrust from those
who do not believe in You.
Help us, too, to help others
carry their crosses in this life
that they might also know
Your love and mercy.
May the Sign of the Cross
be our constant reminder
that love is greater than hate,
sacrifice is better than comfort,
and life is stronger than death.
Amen.~ Father Joseph R. Veneroso, M.M. The Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers serve the poor in 22 countries, and celebrate our faith through Mass, the Sacraments, and pastoral work.
